DIY Acrylic Removal and Hand Mask

With many of our nail salons temporarily shutting up shop, we’ve been left to fend for ourselves when it comes to nail care.

If you’re not sure where to start don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with this easy step-by-step guide to help you remove your acrylic nails (including SNS and Shellac) safely and make your own hydrating hand mask to combat all that hand sanitising.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Nail file
Acetone
Cotton balls
Aluminum foil
Cuticle pusher
Cuticle oil
Hand lotion
Gloves

Let’s nail it!

Step 1. File off the first layer of colour to break the chemical bond.
Step 2. Soak the cotton balls in acetone. Take one and place it on a nail. Secure the cotton ball with a piece of aluminum foil. Repeat this step for each nail. Leave it for 10 – 20 minutes.
Step 3. Remove the aluminium foil and cotton balls from your nails.
Step 4. Grab the cuticle pusher or a metal spoon and gently push the acrylic off each nail.
Step 5. Apply cuticle oil to your nails and surrounding skin to hydrate and nourish.

Home hand mask

Now that you’ve safely removed your acrylic or gel nails, it’s time to hydrate your hands.
Step 1. Take your hand lotion and heat it in a bowl for 10 to 20 seconds.
Step 2. Pour the hand lotion into one glove and place your hand inside it.
Step 3. Massage the lotion around your hand evenly and repeat this step for your other hand.
Step 4. Keep the hand mask on for 10 minutes and then remove your gloves.
You now have nourished, smooth and soft hands!
