DIY Darling – Mardi Gras Mask for Kids

Mardi Gras season is just around the corner so it’s time to stockpile your glitter and feathers! Beyond the glitz and the glam though, Mardi Gras is about promoting diversity and equality. It’s an annual celebration inspiring a culture of inclusion, so what better way to celebrate than with a DIY mask activity for the kids.

This mask is super easy, and if you need a template you can download and print one here.

What you will need:

  • Coloured cardboard sheets
  • Glitter glue pens
  • Adhesive gems and jewels
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick (or a hot glue gun with parent supervision)
  • Feathers to match your coloured cardboard
  • Ribbon

INSTRUCTIONS

Constructing your mask

Cut-out your mask and cardboard feathers from the template.

From the middle, start gluing your cardboard feathers down in a fan shape.

Cut two holes on the edge of the mask and thread the ribbon through to use as a tie.

It’s decorating time!

Glue your feathers down to cover your cardboard feathers.

Add your adhesive gems, jewels and use the glitter glue pens to really make your mask sparkle.

You’re now ready to celebrate Mardi Gras!
