Five ways to say ‘I love you’ this Valentine’s Day
Believe it or not, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Between birthdays, Christmas and anniversaries, it can be hard to know what to get your loved ones by the time February 14 rolls around. While there are countless ways to say I love you, and no one knows your partner like you do, here are just a few ways to connect this Valentine’s Day.
With food
Food and love are intrinsically linked and that makes it a given on Valentine’s Day. If you’re not great in the kitchen, you’ll find lots of cafes, bars and restaurants offering special packages for the day. Otherwise, pick up some fresh ingredients and a bottle of wine and cook your partner’s favourite dishes, or talk to your local specialist deli about putting together a lovers’ feast for a picnic. When it comes to chocolates, try a chocolatier or bakery for something a little fancier than Celebrations.
With a bit of pampering
After 2020, we all deserve the rest and relaxation of a spa treatment, fresh haircut or manicure. A voucher for your partner’s favourite salon makes a great gift, or book a couple’s massage somewhere special. You can even put together a personalised hamper with a selection of luxurious smelling hair and beauty products and have a spa day at home.
With the kids
Children are the ultimate expression of love and there are plenty of ways to make Valentine’s Day a family affair. Teenagers might not want to spend the day with their parents, but little kids will love the chance to craft a card that says ‘I love you’ or help make breakfast in bed for mum or dad. Plan a family picnic to the park, a trip to the cinema, or a boardgame night at home complete with new matching PJs, popcorn and sweet treats.
With the perfect gift
The possibilities are endless when it comes to presents, especially because the ‘perfect gift’ is different for everyone. Think about what your partner really wants but might not buy for themselves — a special edition copy of their favourite book or designer skincare products you know they only buy when there’s a sale. Are there any hobbies or activities you’ve both been meaning to try, like pottery, Thai cooking or rock climbing? Make your own starter kit with any accessories or equipment you need, a guidebook to get you started and a plan to experience something new together.
With your furry companions
There are few things purer than the love between a pet and its human. When it comes to spending the day with your Valentine, you certainly don’t want to leave your puppy at home. Before heading out for a romantic walk on the beach or lunch at the national park, check that the spot is pet friendly and remember to pack treats and a water bowl.
